Fall Marathon Recap

A little more than a week ago, I ran the Scotia Bank Waterfront Marathon in Toronto, my second time running the race and visiting the city. It was a different experience in more ways than one…

The purpose of the trip was race related, but since it was a destination race for me and the first time for J., my boyfriend, it was a vacation, too. Our stay was at the Sheraton Centre Toronto, centrally located so that our window view was of the CN Tower and just across Queen Street - City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square, where the marathon would finish.

A few words about the race - weatherwise it was much warmer by 20 degrees than last year, though still cool at the start. Compare last year’s photo where the dress was long sleeve and tights, with this year’s shorts and short sleeve.

Outside of the race, we fit in a couple of museum visits. First up some photos taken at Art Gallery of Ontario which had a wonderful Early Rubens exhibit that we viewed. Also stepped into Yayoi Kasuma’s Infinity MIrrored Room - Let’s Survive Together.

Then some photos taken of the ceramics at the Gardiner Museum. The current exhibit Savour: Food Culture in the Age of Enlightenment just opened and J was enthralled by many the tureens.

A visit to the flagship Umbria store, which beckoned with its colorful exterior and delighted with all the products on display inside. The bought little animal shaped ring holders were exquisite souvenirs to bring back.

Lots of fine dining

A walk through the financial district to Brookfield Place by Calatrava and past TD Dominion Plaza by Mies

Not too much packed in, because time needed to rest and recover from running the marathon. All in all, a fun time in the big city of Toronto.
