Celebrating - National Poetry Month 2024

It may the last official day of National Poetry Month 2024 but I intend to celebrate daily from here on with an at-home poetry reading :-)

Awhile back I bought Devotion, a collection of Mary Oliver’s poetry at Chaucer’s Books in Santa Barbara. It’s been a fun ritual to open to a random page and discover new favorite poems to read aloud.

The book features more than 200 poems from her very first book of poetry, No Voyage and Other Poems, published in 1963 at the age of 28, through her collection in Felicity, published in 2015.

I’ve bookmarked some of my favorite poems - I Don’t Want To Be Demure or Respectible, Franz Marc’s Blue Horses, Why I Wake Early, The Journey.

And another way I plan to celebrate is to gift books of poetry to friends and family.
