Architecture Field Trip - North Arroyo Seco, Linda Vista Neighborhood
As 2020 winds down, I continue to enjoy the view from Pasadena, our tree-lined streets and exploring by foot ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
These images are from Tuesdayโs run to Rancheros Place/Road in the Linda Vista Neighborhood of Pasadena, the North Arroyo Seco area that lies west of the Rose Bowl. On a clear day, such as yesterday, the view of the San Gabriel mountains is great.
I learned there was a home by architect and educator Ray Kappe (founder of SCI-arc) on Rancheros Place, hence the decision to include a run there. Itโs good to have a destination in mind when running :)
However, when I reached the address, only the entryway and garage were visible from the street.
Still, it was worthwhile to pay a visit. Nearby on the same cul-de-sac was a nice post and beam with tidy, artfully trimmed shrubs.
Continuing further uphill on Rancheros road, I took in the wonderful San Gabriel mountain views (images near top of blog) and a street of mid-century modern homes. Several were by architects S.E. Williams and Salvatore Merendino, both faculty at USC.
On the return home heading south on Linda Vista Road, I was pleased to view the Schoenberg House by architect Leland Evison, c. 1953. Information for this house and others that form part of Pasadenaโs Mid-century Modern home driving tour can be found HERE.
Iโm happy to report that I have been to nearly all and have the images to show :)
