Architecture Field Trip - Del Mar Terrace
The Del Mar Terrace neighborhood in San Diego County is a fun area to explore by foot.. Located on the very southern end of Del Mar city limits just north of La Jolla, the residential architecture is an eclectic mix due to it’s topography and history. A nice article written to celebrate its 100th anniversary can be found HERE.
Though you will find many large, boxy contemporary beach homes common to SoCal, there is an eclectic mix of the bland and one-of-a-kind. l. The ones I found most interesting tended to be smaller, organic and even a little quirky. In the gallery above are some that caught my eye on the morning run, including an A-Frame.
I found the Terrace “Free Library” set along the curve of Via Grimaldi complete with reading bench. The homes adjacent were nestled amidst the Torrey Pines and had lovely amazing views towards the lagoon and beach below.
