Architecture Photography - Kimbell Art Museum

Excited to receive an advance copy Friday of the revised Louis I Kahn monograph publshed by Phaidon. Two of my images are included!

The selected images (357b, 361t) were taken at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Tx the year I traveled to see Louis Kahn: The Power of Architecture exhibit everywhere it showed in the US.

The first venue for the exhibit was in Bellevue, WA and a talk was given by Robert McCarter, the architect and author of the monograph. I recall re-borrowing the first edition of the monograph from the Salk Institute library to prepare for my visit.

Now I have a personal copy which I can reference at home :-)

Some notes about the images taken in April 2017:

This view from the south entry walkway shows the sunken sculpture court which houses Isamu Noguchi’s sculpture, Constellation (for Louis Kahn), of 1983. The sun was too bright for a quality photo when I initially stood at this spot so I went to have dinner nearby at the Musuem of Modern Art. This was taken upon my return. I’m glad I made the effort to wait for the right moment.

This view includes the Yaupon holly trees on the left, the entry portico with the south end wall in the centre, and the entrance hall through the full-height glass wall on the right. The photo was taken during a morning run when the sun was quite bright, hence the striking contrast of shadows. I thought it quite cool that I could run from my hotel to the Kimbell and the adjacent museums in the cultural district.
