Sublime Design - Macy’s
—————- UNDER CONSTRUCTION ————
Occasionally you need to pop into a department store to pick up something mundane like socks or a household item. If you’re lucky to live in Pasadena, your Macy’s is an atypical streamline moderne gem. With distinct design details inside and out and a treasure trove of artful artifacts, your shopping errand turns into a mini architecture/museum adventure!
The historic Macy’s Pasadena was designed by Wurdeman & Becket, a Los Angeles architecture firm whose credits include the Capitol Records building, the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood, and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Downtown Los Angeles.
It opened in 1947 and was featured in an 8-page spread in Architectural Digest in 1948. A lot of the original interior artifacts are still there.
Below are some of my favorites images of the seating areas, artwork, historic photos and decor details.
