Film Location Fun

It’s almost 6 months since the move to Pasadena and I continue to log the miles in and around my neighborhood. To keep it fresh, I have started to incorporate residential film locations into my running routes. Fortunately, there a long list of choices! A few are shared below:

Back to the Future (1985)

The current giftshop at The Gamble House was the location for Doc Brown’s workshop where the DeLorean was stored in “Back to the Future”. Located at 4 Westmoreland Pl.

Mad Men (2007-2015)

In the TV series Mad Men, the Draper family supposedly lives in Westchester County, New York but the exterior was filmed in Pasadena with the blue door repainted red. Right around the corner is the home filmed for the “Father of the Bride.” Located at 675 Arden Rd.

Father of the Bride (1991)

This residence with green shutters and white picket fence is where George Banks (Steve Martin) lived with his family in the 1991 romantic comedy. It was there that George and his wife Nina (Diane Keaton) threw a wedding reception for their daughter. Located at 843 South El Molino.

CSI: Las Vegas, Lady Heather’s Home and also in episode of The Mentalist

When J. first showed me this mansion, he said it looked like a haunted house. Indeed, it looked like it could use some fixing up. The “fixer-upper” appeared in all five of the “Lady Heather” episodes in CSI: Las Vegas. Lady Heather owned an S&M fetish club in Sin City. The residence is located at 929 Buena Vista St., at the corner of Buena Vista and Meridian Avenue in South Pasadena.

Yours, Mines & Ours (1968)

This Victorian home is seen in the original 1968 version of “Yours, Mine & Ours” starring Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda. Built in 1893, it’s known as the Blankenhorn-Lamphear house and located at 346 Markham Place. The 2005 remake with Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo also used a Pasadena house location which I’ll include in a future post.

Brothers & Sisters

Shown above is the home of Nora Walker (Sallie Field) in the ABC series “Brothers & Sisters”. The series is about a California family who owns a fictional Ojai Foods company. The residence is located at 1640 Lombardy Rd.
