Museum Monday - Broad Museum, Keith Haring: Art is for Everybody
When you learn your friend is a fan of Keith Haring’s art and know there’s an exhibit at The Broad Museum in DTLA, that is the first place you take them when they’re in town.
“Art is for Everybody” is on exhibit now through Oct. 8. Per the museum’s website, it “features over 120 artworks and archival materials. The expansive exhibition features the breadth of mediums Haring worked within, including video, sculpture, drawing, painting, and graphic works, as well as representations from the artist’s enormous output of public projects, from the subway drawings to his public murals.”
The exhibit requires a paid timed-entry admission. We chose to park in the museum structure, knowing it would cost $17 with museum validation. A bonus for EV owners is the option to charge their vehicles for free in one the many spots reserved close to the entry. We were there earlier than our ticket time and were allowed to enter as soon as we got to the entrance.
There is definitely a lot to take in of Haring’s work and we planned ahead of time to grab a bite afterwards at Otium, my favorite restaurant next to The Broad. Lunch service at Otium is more casual than evening. However, no reservations are required and you still enjoy the same great food, albeit with selections from a smaller menu. We shared a couple of plates and were amply fueled for the archtecture touring to follow.
It was nice to find that parking validation at the restaurant saves you a little upon leaving, $8 vice $17 if validating at the museum.
All in all, touring the special exhibit, the rest of the museum and dining at Otium was the perfect DTLA start to our day.
