It’s very easy to turn a staycation into a mini-architecture field trip! This one was designed around a stay at the Century Plaza Hotel designed by Minoru Yamasaki. There were many other noteworthy architectural buildings near the hotel including the iconic Century Towers, also by Yamasaki.

It’s great to have a few architecture places to visit bookmarked so that I can pull them out when J. asks “Where to?” On Kauai, I wanted to visit two places and lucky for us, they were located right across the street from each other in Lihue.

Neighborhood Field Trip - Eagle Rock

There is a lovely neighborhood in Eagle Rock just below the 134 freeway. It’s a small 2 mile stretch with an eclectic mix of residential architecture.

Museum Monday - American Museum of Ceramic Art

There was a recent weekend visit to the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA) in Pomona, CA to view the exhibit “Architectural Pottery: Ceramics for a Modern Landscape” which runs through March 2, 2025. It was my first time at the museum and not only did I enjoy the pottery exhibit, but there were a couple of surprise Millard Sheets artwork there as well!
